An Undiscovered Room

Jul 24, 2026 – Jul 26, 2026

Interdisciplinary Arts Collective

Interdisciplinary Arts Collective presents “An Undiscovered Room” – a journey into lost and hidden spaces. Over the course of the performance, the audience travels through a maze constructed inside the venue with a series of poles and stitched-together curtains of found and recycled materials.

The performers of Interdisciplinary Arts Collective - dancers, musicians, poets, and actors - navigate the space alongside the audience. Specific conditions inside the maze, such as an encounter with another person, a shift in sound or lighting, etc., triggers performance scores for the artists. Dance, music, and text emerge from these encounters as each score is performed and the work unfolds in a constantly evolving labyrinth of experience, discovery, and connection.

“An Undiscovered Room” is interested in practices of orientation and attunement / in how we might move through the lost and hidden spaces where visibility and certainty twist back on themselves to blur into possibility. IAC designed the maze as a living, resonating space that invites curious travel and encourages its voyagers to explore spatial, sonic, and embodied relationships as we affect and are affected by our encounters with each other. We look forward to meeting you there among the twists and turns.

The Variants

Jul 25, 2026 – Aug 2, 2026

Curious Modern Plays

Balancing sharp humor with emotional volatility, The Variants captures the chaos of how even the closest relationships can fracture when beliefs collide.

During weekly video chats, a mother and her three adult children hold themselves together the only way they know how: routine, humor, and just enough denial to keep things moving.

But when their long-delayed reunion is finally within reach, one son refuses to play by the rules, setting off a chain reaction that pulls every fault line to the surface.

What begins as a single act of defiance quickly escalates—exposing secrets, shifting alliances, and forcing each member of the family to confront what they believe, and what those beliefs cost.

As the distance between them finally closes, the question isn’t just if they can come together, but what it will take.

Featuring Annette Wright, Kirt Bateman, Eva TerraNova, and Allen Smith.

Directed by Teresa Sanderson.

A Curious Modern Plays production, in association with Meanwhile Park and with support from Salt Lake Acting Company.

The Unseen

Jul 31, 2026

Creators Dance Project

The Unseen opens in rupture.

A sudden emotional fracture disrupts control before it has time to form, exposing the raw, unfiltered edge of the human experience. From there, the work pulls inward—into the quieter, psychological terrain that follows impact, where thoughts loop, emotions settle, and tension hides beneath the surface.

Through layered physical storytelling, moments of restraint are interrupted by flashes of unpredictability and humor, revealing the instability beneath even the most composed exterior. Patterns emerge, distort, and collapse as dancers navigate the constant push between control and release.

The Unseen explores the full spectrum beneath the surface—where humor, pressure, contradiction, and vulnerability coexist—and where what is hidden continues to shape what is seen.

REPLACEMENTS

Jul 25, 2026 – Aug 2, 2026

Salt Monster Theatre Co.

Two workers sit in a pristine room, performing simple tasks in perfect unison: fill out paperwork, clean, reset the machine. The rules are clear. The expectations are not. At the end of each shift, one of them will be “replaced.”

At first, it’s routine. Predictable. Controlled. Then instructions shift and become increasingly specific, then unstable, then impossible. What once felt like a job turns into a relentless evaluation with no clear criteria.

As the pressure builds, the line between obedience and survival begins to blur. Every action matters. Every hesitation is noticed. Success is undefined, and failure is inevitable.

Replacements is an original, dark absurdist play exploring obedience, labor, and a system that demands perfection and explains nothing. In a world where worth is measured by alignment and strict obedience, two workers must decide what matters most: following instructions or knowing when not to.  |

Sugar Mud

Jul 25, 2026 – Aug 2, 2026

Meat Bar

Get on the dirt clod bitches -- we're gettin' picked up by a tornada'! “Sugar Mud” is a surreal, solo clown show presented by Meat Bar, a Los Angeles based comedian and performance artist. This show is inspired by their Granny (born 1908) getting picked up by a tornado (in 1920), the writer Jorge Luis Borges (born 1899) and his short story Circular Ruins (written in 1940), an eternal marriage becoming an eternal divorce (∞), their Mormon temple name [redacted], rock bottoms, and rocks.

The show takes place on a floating clod of dirt that hovers in the eye of the storm. You—the audience—get sucked up into this domain, ruled by a crone so ancient, so washed up, they are difficult to distinguish from the rock formations that surround them.

Through a vortex of magical surrealism and fringe society wisdom, 'Sugar Mud' explores themes of natural order, oral histories, historical birth orders, family lineage, and generational rock bottoms. The show examines the device of storytelling–how it is used to foist systemic control, and the alchemy that occurs when stories are rewritten–restructuring the imposed order. And because we’re traveling through time in a tornado, much thematic mass gets picked up along the way. The show asks important questions like “what’s dangerous and to who?,” “who’s is this?,” and “what’s the dog’s name?”

But most importantly, on its floor and on it's face, the show is absurdly stupid.

++++

Audience Reviews:

“Sugar Mud was an inventive, beautiful mix of sacred and profane. Surprises throughout and the ending had me sitting with my mouth wide open. I felt like I was in the damn Courage the Cowardly Dog house.”

“Rarely do you arrive in a theater and get transported both gently and instantaneously. Part magical realism, part grandma hang time – Meat made us all familiars in this strangely beautiful space.”

“I got lost in this show’s magic – its elegant movement, its crunchy weird comedy, its ethereal exploration of familial ick and heart – this is a special show.”

“This is easily one of the best show's I've seen in my dang life. Meat was not just a granny, a Mormon gossip – I was a grand kid, I was a Mormon gossip. I was so brought into this transcendent world and did not want to leave. The stage pictures, set, and costuming were in a riveting conversation with each other. Laughing every second, this lil’rally throbbed with brilliance.”

"I didn't know performance could look like this."

Helen

Helen of Sparta knows how the story ends: badly. Yet she keeps telling it, over and over again, helpless as the tragedies of the Trojan War unfold in front of her eyes. She oscillates between being part of the story and simply watching it happen around her.

Maybe this time it will be different.

Inspired by ancient and contemporary tragedies alike, HELEN is an original play firmly rooted in the storytelling traditions of Ancient Greece, seeking to highlight the humanity in all of its characters—for better or for worse.

This is Jane

Jul 24, 2026 – Aug 2, 2026

Opera Contempo

It all begins with a phone call. When a pregnant student seeks an illegal abortion in 1965, it leads to the creation of one of the most important activist groups of all time: the Jane Collective, Chicago’s revolutionary underground abortion service. This is Jane tells the story of the Collective through the lives of those who were part of it as patients, volunteers, staff, and practitioners, drawing on interviews, memoirs, and historical sources, and testifies to the continuing need for reproductive rights.

Act 2, Scene 3: Jane volunteer Kate has overhead other Janes talking, and has learned that the man currently providing abortions for Jane's clients isn't a licensed doctor. She tells Rosie, a volunteer who is also one of Jane's leaders, and Rosie admits that not only did she know that, but that the man has been training select Jane volunteers to perform abortions themselves. Rosie argues that it'll be better for their clients to have women taking care of them, that the costs will be lower, and that the procedure is safer than removing tonsils. Kate comes around to agree with Rosie and sees the wisdom in using trained Janes to provide abortions, but insists that Rosie tell the rest of the Janes.

Act 2, Scene 4: At a meeting of all of Jane's volunteers, Cici, Rosie, and Lainie, all leaders in Jane, announce the change from using the previous abortion provider to having trained Janes do the procedures. The Janes fracture here, with some women enthusiastically in support of the training while others feel it's unethical and storm out.

Act 2, Scene 5: Cici, who has long been the leader of Jane, brings in Rosie and Lainie, her right-hand women, to tell them that the cancer for which she's been receiving treatment has become terminal, and that she has to scale back on some of her Jane activities. She explains her situation and asks them to help take over for her when she cannot work any longer.

Happy Birthday Mr. President.

Jul 24, 2023 – Aug 1, 2026

Trust Fall

A table, cookies, pop-its, paper cups, the Intern, a COO, a CFO, the CEO, and perhaps the worst birthday party ever. At a first glance, the activities seem to be pleasant; pin the tail on the donkey, beer pong, and charades; but, it becomes quickly apparent that in a culture where time is money, and the ultimate currency is time itself, it becomes quite difficult to enjoy yourself. This ordinary office party becomes a very unordinary day in the lives of the party-goers, challenging them to engage in themes of friendship, humanity, purposeful-existence, and to let go of the clock. Happy Birthday Mr. President is a cautionary tale, and a reminder of the simple joys of life. And, if you don’t like it, you only spent an hour of your time–but you did spend it.

Ophelia is STILL Drowning!?!

Jul 25, 2026 – Aug 1, 2026

Sandra Detweiler "Something is rotten in Denmark, but Ophelia has it pretty good. ""The eldest daughter of a nobleman, Ophelia lived in fantasy""… or something like that. If only her dad would stop micromanaging her love life. If only Prince Hamlet would hurry up and propose. If only her brother would let her play his electric guitar….

Ophelia Is STILL Drowning!?! is a one-person play that mixes Shakespeare with smart phones and rock music, asking us to consider some of the most fundamental questions of our time—

How are women still limited by the expectations of society?

Is tragedy inevitable, or is a celebrity football player all we need to save us?

How do patriarchal power structures undermine bodily autonomy for everyone?

And, what if Ophelia knew how to swim?

Yet even in his jagged narrative, he finds poignancy, humanity, heartbreak and humor shimmering through a darkly cynical vision that feels startlingly, urgently familiar.
